Thriebeam Guardrail System

Safe Direction’s Thriebeam guardrail constitutes the new wave of guardrail barrier systems and is comprised of additional corrugation, making it a stronger version of the W-Beam guardrail system.

The semi-rigid barrier system provides a desirable outcome for both vehicle composure and vehicle occupants, through a combination of the flexural resistance of the rail and the bending resistance of the supporting posts.

The ability of the Thriebeam guardrail to absorb some of the crash energy reduces occupant risk and limits the damage of the impacting vehicle.

How Thrie Beam Guardrails Work

Thriebeam guardrail is available using standard or modified blocking pieces. The blocking pieces are used to secure the rail to the specially-engineered supporting posts. Adjacent rails are bolted together forming a splice connection and end terminals are placed at either end to anchor the guardrail system.

Upon impact, the posts absorb some of the crash energy through the post’s rotation into the surrounding soil prior to separation from the rail as they fully yield.

Once the rail separates from the posts, the Thriebeam rail forms a redirective ribbon, guiding the vehicle away from the nearby hazard.

The sectional strength of the posts (spaced every 2m), combined with the flexural strength of the rail limits the deflection of the system during impact.

Features and Benefits

  • Thriebeam guardrail can be configured using standard blocking pieces or modified blocking pieces, making it adaptable to suit varied application sites.
  • The blocking pieces are positioned between the rail and posts, minimising vehicle snagging and reducing the potential for vehicles to vault over the barrier, by maintaining rail height during the initial stages of impact.
  • The additional corrugation in the rail stiffens the system, making it less prone to damage during low to moderate speed impacts. This sturdier composition allows for higher mounting of the rail, which increases the system’s ability to contain larger vehicles under impact conditions.

Thriebeam guardrail includes hot dip galvanised components in accordance with AS/NZS 4680 and is manufactured in accordance with state road agency specifications.
