Lo-Ro Plastic Barrier
Lo-Ro is a water filled plastic safety barrier system designed for low-speed environments typically encountered on local roadways. Lo-Ro features three (3) internal galvanised steel cables and interlocking knuckles between modules to stiffen the system and minimise dynamic deflection during low-speed vehicle impacts. The highly visible design of Lo-Ro provides driver confidence and highlights the safe passage of travel. Lo-Ro is easily deployed for emergency road closures, detours and lane redirection.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Lo-Ro crash barrier?
Lo-Ro is a lightweight, modular traffic safety device designed to absorb impact energy and protect road users. It is made of durable plastic and filled with water.
Where are these barriers commonly used?
Lo-Ro barriers are widely used in construction zones, roadwork areas, carparks, event perimeters, and temporary traffic control situations.
Is an end terminal required for the installation of the Lo-Ro plastic barrier?
The Lo-Ro SLED comprises a water filled unit positioned within a containment impact sled. The Lo-Ro SLED is designed to reduce the amount of damage to downstream units during an end-on impact.
How do you install a Lo-Ro plastic crash barrier?
- Position the empty barriers in the desired location.
- Connect them using the built-in interlocking system.
- Fill each barrier with water to the required level.
How do Lo-Ro water-filled barriers compare to traditional concrete barriers?
- Lighter Weight: Easier to transport and install when empty.
- Impact Absorption: Water-filled barriers are designed to deflect as they absorb vehicle impact energy.
- Rapid Deployment: Ideal for temporary and mobile traffic control.
What maintenance procedures are recommended?
Minimal maintenance is required. Regularly check for cracks, leaks, or UV damage, and ensure they are properly filled to the required level.
How do you drain the water from the barriers when relocating or storing them?
Each unit features a drainage plug, allowing for easy emptying before transport or storage.
Can the Lo-Ro plastic barrier be installed without water?
If the barrier is required to withstand a vehicle impact, the units must be filled with water. Non-filled units may be deployed for crowd control or delineation only.
How much water is required to fill each unit?
Each unit holds approximately 615 litres of water.
Can screens be secured to the Lo-Ro plastic barrier?
Yes. The Lo-Ro Screen can be secured to the top of the plastic unit providing additional site safety
