Roll Form Manufacturing

A multi-stepped procedure is used by Safe Direction to verify the compliance of the material used in the production of w-beam guardrail, thrie-beam guardrail and RamShield posts to AS/NZS 1594.

Mill certificates and independent third-party laboratory test results are verified against Australian Standard guidelines recording the steel heat numbers, mechanical results and chemical composition. Steel used for our roll-forming operation is manufactured locally by BlueScope Steel. Items are stamped during manufacture providing industry-leading traceability to the steel heat number.

Crash Test Evaluation

Compliance of Safe Direction Crash Barrier systems to Australian and international standards is validated using full-scale crash testing.  Crash testing provides an independent assessment of the expected behaviour of the barrier and vehicle in a real-life impact situation. Information gathered during crash testing includes occupant risk, vehicle behaviour and the ability of the barrier to safely contain and redirect the errant vehicle.

Laboratories engaged by Safe Direction for crash testing are signatories to The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) as required by the Austroads Safety Barrier Assessment Panel.
