Hercules
Hercules is a MASH TL3 compliant crash cushion designed to shield the blunt ends of concrete barriers and other hazards. Featuring an all-steel construction, Hercules is supplied as a pre-assembled unit to facilitate rapid installation, limiting the time workers spend on the roadside and minimising disruption to traffic. Hercules measures just 590 mm wide making it ideal for narrow medians. Hercules is fully re-directive and non-gating, providing safe vehicle containment and ride-down decelerations.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Hercules work?
Hercules is fully re-directive and non-gating, providing safe vehicle containment and ride-down decelerations. Hercules captures vehicles impacting the head of the system and brings them to a safe arrest via high energy dissipating crushable elements. Side impacts are controlled by Hercules with a safe stable redirection of the errant vehicle.
What is the advantage of Hercules when compared to other crash cushions?
The width of Hercules is just 590 mm making it ideal for installation in narrow medians.
What does non-gating mean?
A non-gating crash cushion or impact attenuator is fully redirective and designed to capture vehicles impacting the nose of the device at an angle.
What happens following a vehicle impact?
If the crash cushion has suffered minor damage only, repairs may be carried out onsite. However, if the cushion has excessive damage it is replaced with a new unit, and repairs are carried out in the safety of a workshop.
What are the maintenance requirements for the Hercules crash cushion?
Periodic inspections are recommended to ensure that nuisance impacts have not gone undetected, that debris has not accumulated around the system, and the crash cushion is appropriately delineated.
Are Hercules crash cushions supplied pre-assembled?
Yes, Hercules crash cushions are supplied preassembled facilitating rapid installation.
What is the benefit of an all-steel construction?
Hercules is an all-steel construction and has no plastic components that deteriorate from UV exposure. All components of the Hercules system are hot-dip galvanised providing a long-term durable system.
What type of foundation is required for the installation of the Hercules system?
The Hercules can be secured to a concrete pad or asphalt. Please refer to the Product Manual.
What is the recommended clearance to a downstream hazard that exceeds the width of the Hercules system?
Should the downstream concrete barrier exceed a width of 410 mm, a clearance of 460 mm is required between Hercules and the downstream barrier to facilitate sliding of the last set of side panels.
What is the benefit of using internally threaded sleeves to anchor the Hercules system?
The internally threaded sleeves are permanently set into the concrete foundation. The Hercules unit is then anchored using M16 bolts that screw directly into the internally threaded sleeves. Following an impact the damaged unit can be removed and replaced without disturbance of the internally threaded sleeves.
