RamShield Median W-Beam

RamShield Median W-Beam is a back-to-back guardrail system providing safe vehicle containment and redirection when impacted from either side of the system. Designed for narrow medians and the prevention of dangerous head-on collisions, RamShield Median W-Beam introduces patented technology into the rail release mechanism. This results in low deflection and fewer components. The rail splices of RamShield Median W-Beam are positioned mid-span between posts, providing ease of access for installation contractors and facilitating rapid assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a roadway median?

The median is the strip of roadway or land that separates opposing directions of traffic on a divided highway or road.

The main purpose of the median is to improve safety by reducing the potential for head-on collisions and managing turning movements.

A median safety barrier system is designed to provide vehicle containment and redirection when impact from either side of the barrier. These barriers are used in narrow medians to reduce the potential for head-on collisions.

RamShield Median W-Beam achieves a controlled redirection of errant vehicles by releasing the w-beam guardrail from the post at an optimal load to retain rail height, limit dynamic deflection and to allow the post to collapse without tripping the vehicle. The separation of the w-beam guardrail from the post is achieved by a release tab punched into the post.

RamShield Median W-Beam uses standard w-beam guardrails and standard guardrail fasteners.

RamShield Median W-Beam has been crash tested in accordance with MASH Test Level 3 (TL3).

The maximum dynamic deflection of RamShield W-Beam during MASH TL3 crash testing was 0.99 m. This result was recorded during an impact with a 2270 kg pick-up truck travelling at 100 km/h and 25 degrees.

The system width of RamShield Median W-Beam is just 320 mm making it ideal for installation in narrow medians.

The Gregory Median End Terminal (GMET) is a back-to-back w-beam terminal, designed for direct attachment to RamShield Median w-beam guardrail and reduce the severity of impacts occurring at the end of the RamShield Median W-Beam system.

No. The system width of the GMET and RamShield Median W-Beam are identical featuring back-to-back w-beam guardrail connected directly to C-posts.

Yes. RamShield Median W-Beam may be installed with BikerShield which is positioned beneath the w-beam guardrail and prevents a dismounted motorcyclist from contacting the supporting posts of the guardrail barrier. The BikerShield spring brackets attach directly to the w-beam mid-span between posts and absorb the impact energy of the sliding rider.
