RhinoStop Standard

Developed by Safe Direction, RhinoStop Standard combines the strength of w-beam guardrail with energy absorbing posts. The yielding behaviour of the RhinoStop baseplate absorbs vehicle impact energy, reducing the peak loads transferred to the anchor bolts and preventing damage to the warehouse floor. The deflection of the w-beam guardrail allows for greater load transfer to the adjacent posts, sharing the impact load from the vehicle.

RhinoStop Standard provides an economical crash barrier solution for warehouse applications and may be configured with a handrail when installed to shield pedestrian walkways throughout the warehouse.. The fully modular system uses off-the-shelf components facilitating rapid supply and installation and can be customised on site to suit specific project dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a warehouse crash barrier?

Warehouse barriers are a specific range of safety barrier systems designed for the protection of people, buildings, plant and equipment. Their design and function are specific to vehicle movements encountered in a warehouse or factory environment.

The yielding behaviour of the RhinoStop Standard baseplate absorbs vehicle impact energy, reducing the peak loads transferred to the anchor bolts. The deflection of the system allows for greater load transfer to the adjacent posts, sharing the impact load from the vehicle.

RhinoStop Standard posts are significantly stronger than similarly sized and anchored rigid posts. The vulnerability of rigid post systems is the high peak load transferred to the anchors upon vehicle impact. This can cause anchor failure, resulting in damage to the concrete substrate. Damage to the concrete is difficult to repair and may compromise structural integrity.

The RhinoStop Standard post incorporates a unique patented yielding base plate that minimises the peak loads transferred to the anchor bolts. Each RhinoStop Standard post is secured to the concrete slab with just one (1) M20 anchor bolt facilitating rapid installation and reducing the potential for conflict with concrete reinforcement.

Yes, the modular design of RhinoStop Standard can be assembled with a pedestrian handrail and mesh infill panels. In addition the w-beam guardrails may be powder-coated to enhance visibility for pedestrians and machinery operators.

Yes, RhinoStop Standard has been full-scale crash tested when installed along the edge of a 150 mm thick elevated concrete slab. This crash test configuration is designed to evaluate vehicle impact behaviour, potential for concrete edge failure and the suitability of the anchor embedment depth.

Crash testing is designed to evaluate the behaviour of the barrier and vehicle during a collision. It is important that the crash tested configuration is representative of a real-life installation. Therefore, a barrier promoted to shield a drop to a lower level, for example a loading dock, should be assessed when installed on the edge of an elevated

concrete slab. In addition, shorter installation lengths place a higher load on the supporting posts increasing the potential for failure. These considerations are adopted by Safe Direction for the crash test assessment of its RhinoStop product range.

The width of RhinoStop Standard measures just 160 mm reducing encroachment into the car parking spacing. When installed in loading dock areas, the back of the baseplate may be vertically aligned with the edge of the elevated concrete deck. The narrow system width also provides suitability for installation adjacent to pedestrian pathways.

RhinoStop Standard is an all-steel construction. The RhinoPosts and w-beam guardrails are hot dip galvanised.

The RhinoStop Standard post weights just 15 kg. A handle-like grip facilitates ease of lifting and installation.
